Hello,

Welcome to Wareings of Wiltshire, where we discuss all things horses and horse trailers!

I am Samantha Wareing and I have always had a deep love for horses. These horses have shaped me into the person I am today and I am forever grateful for them. It was only natural that I had to honour them in this first blog post.

Kester - 14.1hh Dun gelding was my first pony and I bought him for £750, my parents put £50 towards him I had saved the rest and paid for his monthly field

rent, I paid for everything else and what a journey it was! A true first pony, steady, dependable loving & stubborn. I have always loved jumping & competing and as a kid I would happily spend hours day dreaming about meeting Pippa Funnell (my girl now lady crush). I would spend hours practising, riding to shows or when I could afford it hire a trailer/lorry to go to a show. For Kes & I to warm up beautifully in the collecting ring, we got this....for us to trot into the arena, here the bell go for Kester to stop and have a pee then refuse the first jump 3 times & for me to get eliminated. This happened frequently but I never gave up.

Shooting Star - 14.2hh Chestnut Arab gelding, my second pony. When I tried

him at a show (I wanted to check he would perform in an arena and wouldn't

get stage fright). He cut holes in between my fingers through his leaping

and general Arabness, I always remembered to wear gloves after that. I

believe we still got eliminated at the show, just not at the first fence, but I had fallen in love with him and his quirky ways. Star was incredible and taught me a lot, how to fall off & how to be patient, when I turned him out in the herd (of riding school ponies) I could not catch him for a week...when I eventually did catch him after 2 1/2 hours our bond had been sealed. I sold Star to a lovely home just before my A-levels/going to University and that funded me through my first few years of my degree. Plus my jobs & my parents playing my rent, I was very lucky. I had a break when I went to University and then for 4 years after I had

graduated concentrating on my career but my life was never complete withouta horse in it.

15.1hh Welsh Section D, Black. I bought as

an un-broken 4 year old from Helen who I am still in contact with now and

would like her to breed me a foal. Nossin taught me all the ground work, how

to lead, lunge (1 & 2 lines), long line and ultimately back for riding. He

was an incredible character and horse & my black beauty. I could ride Nos up

a busy A road with articulated lorries come past him and he would not bat an

eyelid. Nos got me to try British Eventing which I love(d), but as my old instructor

Willaim Mifflin who sadly passed away said you can not turn him into a

thoroughbred Sam, maybe you are doing too much with him... This is when Josh

(Joshua Bloom) came into my life.

Joshua Bloom - 16.hh bright bay 4 year old thoroughbred, failed race horse.

Josh was gifted to me through a friend as he was not going to race, what I

didn't know before I had him was that the trainer could not get him up the

gallops to train, so instead trained him using a treadmill. Josh was the only horse I was ever frightened off, I remember riding him one

day along a bridle path and he was spooking, shying and napping & me

thinking if I could not conquer my fear and show him leadership he would

have to go.

Thankfully I did and Josh and I had tons of fun together, he also taught me a lot and improved my riding no end.

Unfortunately having 2 horses was unsustainable, money and time so I sold

Nossin to Jayne, where he had a home for life and never really had to work

ever again. Josh moved to the North East and back with me when I met Seth, but at the grand old age of 8 or 9 his arthritis was so bad (they are trained too early

to race in my opinion and their brains or their bodies are not ready for the

trauma) had to be put to sleep.

OTS or Otsy Dotsy to his friends, So Hot Mail (passport name), 16.2hh 8 year

old Bay English Warmblood. My horse of a lifetime or so I thought. OTS came

to me through an advert on my old Riding Club page, I had just started to think I could get a horse again and have something for me...

I bought OTS from a field from a lady who had bought him as a 4 year old as

her forever horse, unfortunately for her it wasn't meant to be and she ended

up having a bad fall from him (freak accident in her arena) which left her

concussed and I bought him as she could no longer ride him. He was beautiful

inside and out and came to me barefoot (no shoes) which opened me up to the

more natural horsemanship side of horses. I am quite alternative I know now.

I kept him in a herd and on a track livery...again I had to learn how to be a leader and get over my fears. OTS was incredible but was nappy and would rear/buck throw a tantrum out of fear himself and he would not hack on his own and didn’t know how to jump. With help from friends and instructors he learnt both and we had an amazing time together. I sold OTS when he was 12 to his forever home where he goes out hacking with his owner and her daughter on her pony, he lives a truly wonderful life.

Dora or Doar the Explorer to her friends...not sure what her passported name

Is, she is a 16.2/3hh Dark Bay thoroughbred, who was given to me free as she

is too slow to race. I am not sure what will happen to Dora long term, I

never wanted another thoroughbred...but she has come into my life to be my

friend and my therapy pony, I have come into her life to allow her to just

be a horse and to grow & mature. She is the kindest mare (the first one I have ever owned) and I love her.

On a personal level, I also have two wonderful children, Bodhi & Tyler...who have yet not shown any interest in ponies, there is still time but I don't push it as it is my hobby and my time. I also had my brother Mark who unfortunately died in a freak accident in 2009, which was and always will be devastating in my life... I have a life before and after Mark died but I am thankful for the 31 years I had with him in my life...the best big brother a sister could ask for. Well that is my story about horses and little bit about me, I hope you have enjoyed reading. If you have any questions at all, please do let me know.
